Position Summary:

Established in 1964 as the first public university in southeast Florida, Florida Atlantic University serves 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students on six campuses along Florida's beautiful southeast coast in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties. The Florida Atlantic University Libraries have prioritized working collaboratively with the campus community on a Top 100/R1 research initiative that includes a highly library engaged campus and community environment. FAU Libraries house approximately 3.7 million items and provide access to over 80,000 electronic journals, nearly 500 databases, and a growing collection of e-books and streaming videos. The Libraries house many distinctive collections, including artists’ books, sound recordings, print music, rare books and manuscripts, and University Archives. The Digital Library creates online collections from unique materials housed in Special Collections and University Archives and serves as the University's repository for the intellectual output produced on campus.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Access, Research, and Learning Services, with a dotted line reporting to the Associate Dean of University Libraries, the Broward Campuses Services Librarian will extend the Libraries’ proactive, user-centric service model to actively engage and collaborate with the FAU Broward community and support its instructional and research needs in traditional and innovative ways. This position provides introductory and in-depth orientations to library services and resources for students and faculty using exhibitions, public programming, classes, online tutorials, social networking, and other innovative techniques to engage the FAU Broward community. In collaboration with the Research and Instructional Services Unit within the Libraries, the Broward Campuses Services Librarian will participate in library outreach and programming efforts, serve as a liaison with assigned academic and student support units that include architecture, multimedia studies, and graphic design, participate in collection management for assigned areas, and conduct in-person and virtual reference and instructional services. This position will have assigned hours throughout the week at the FAU Fort Lauderdale Campus, Dania Beach Campus (SeaTech), Davie Campus (Broward County) and the S.E. Wimberly Library in Boca Raton (Palm Beach County).

Essential Functions

  • Provide focused in-person and virtual library services to FAU students, researchers, and faculty at its Broward campus locations.

  • Provide reference and information assistance in-person and virtually to external and internal library users for all types and formats of library materials.

  • Participate in the rotations for on-call reference and the Ask a Librarian online reference service.

  • Provide instructional sessions using library resources to a diverse community and student body, working across various disciplines.

  • Provide group, one-on-one, distance learning, and hybrid instruction for courses, workshops, and programs.

  • Participate in liaison activities in assigned subject areas, including support for scholarly communication and promoting the awareness and use of open educational resources (OER) .

  • Develop subject/discipline promotional materials that effectively communicate the Libraries’ resources to the community by utilizing research guides, online tutorials, and other media.

  • Actively engage with University and library colleagues to ensure current collections and services meet the needs of the FAU Broward community and support the University’s and Libraries’ mission and strategic plan.

  • Participate in FAU programs and events that promote student recruitment, academic preparedness, and graduation.

  • Participate in Libraries’ engagement events.

  • Work closely with library colleagues on community outreach and development activities.

  • Contribute to developing and strengthening a positive view of the FAU Libraries as an active partner in the University’s educational and research mission and assist with promoting the Libraries’ needs and services.

  • Serve on appropriate Libraries, University, regional or national committees.

  • Investigate opportunities to carry out, publish, and present original scholarship, research, and scholarly projects related to the area of expertise or responsibility.

  • Develop an annual professional development plan.

  • Submit reoccurring library faculty activity reports as assigned.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Location

FAU Fort Lauderdale Campus, Dania Beach Campus, Davie Campus (Broward County) and Boca Raton Campus (Palm Beach County). On a weekly basis, this position will work 1-2 days at the Fort Lauderdale Campus, 1-2 days at the Dania Beach Campus (SeaTech), 1-2 days at the Davie Campus, and 1-2 days at the Wimberly Library at the Boca Raton Campus. Additional virtual services to the FAU Broward community may also be provided from the Boca Raton Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.

• Minimum of five years of experience in an academic, public, or special library or related field.

•Ability to meet standards of Associate Librarian including scholarship and service (https://library.fau.edu/staff/faculty/promotion-guidelines).

• Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member and team leader where consultation, flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Second Master’s degree and/or doctorate.

• Three years of experience in academic/higher education.

• Experience with architectural, graphic design, and multimedia studies resources and proving architectural, graphic design, and multimedia studies instruction related to this discipline.

• Experience with shared library services with partner/joint use institutions.

• Demonstrates sustained record of scholarship, research, and/or creative endeavors.

• Demonstrates record of service with leadership roles on committees and projects in libraries and in the library profession.

• Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) and discovery tool (e.g., Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE).

• Experience using Canvas learning management system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of current trends in instruction and outreach relevant to academic libraries.

• Experience delivering reference service in academic or other types of libraries in all formats (in-person, chat, email, consultations, and through other technologies).

• Experience in teaching and facilitating the learning of individuals from various backgrounds and levels of readiness in an academic setting.

• Experience using learning management systems.

• Ability to conduct systematic reviews and assist instructional/research faculty with grant proposals.

• Demonstrates service commitments in leadership roles on committees, contributing to the profession through significant professional service.

• Demonstrates sustained scholarship, research, and creative endeavors, contributing to the profession through peer-reviewed publications in librarianship and presentations at regional or national library-related conferences.
