Position Summary:

The Wilkes Honors College of the Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a Coordinator, General Chemistry Laboratories position to begin June 22, 2020. This position is recurring pending funding. An ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to student education, be open to new and varied educational approaches and have an interest in green chemistry. Ability to teach organic chemistry laboratories is an asset. This position reports to the Interim Dean of the Wilkes Honors College.

Summary of Responsibilities and Duties Include:

Preparing and teaching eight to ten chemistry laboratories annually.

  • Teaching the existing labs.

  • Developing new experiments and projects as needed.

  • Revising and updating the instructional laboratory manual used by students.

Ensuring safe operation of laboratories.

  • Responsible for interpretation of University Chemical Hygiene Plan and policies.

  • Annual training through Environmental Health and Safety required.

  • Organizing all chemicals according to Hazard classification.

Training and supervising teaching assistants.

  • Coordinating the schedules.

  • Supervising setting up materials for the labs.

Ordering and maintaining supplies and laboratory instrumentation.

  • Creating a chemical inventory list.

  • Assisting the Director in the preparation of all purchase requisitions, ordering chemicals, and approval of all invoices.

Minimum Qualifications:

MSc in Chemistry from an accredited institution and evidence of excellence in undergraduate instruction required.Ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to student education, be open to new and varied educational approaches.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to success in this position.Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.
