The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Instructor position in Psychology beginning Fall 2020. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, advise students, and direct honors theses. Expected teaching load is seven courses per year plus thesis supervision.The Wilkes Honors College (WHC), which opened in 1999, is a selective liberal arts college within a large state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. The WHC includes a vital community of social science, natural science, and humanities faculty. The campus is an international hub for scientific research, and is host to Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, Scripps Research Institute Florida, and FAU’s own Brain Institute.The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and interdisciplinary programs. Currently, the WHC enrolls 500 honors students and has 41 full-time honors faculty members. As part of the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the WHC will increase the size of its student body and grow its faculty over the next five years. See www.honorscollege.edu. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related discipline and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching. The committee will view favorably breadth and depth of teaching interests, the ability to contribute specialized as well as core courses in psychology to our talented, motivated, conscientious and diverse student body, potential for collaboration in the interdisciplinary teaching activities of the college, experience in advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and a commitment to fostering diversity on the campus.
